Amy Webb of Blue Ridge Floral Design, who I love working with, called to ask me to make a birthday cake for her mother in law's 90th birthday. I love making cakes for elders! Maybe it is because my own Grandmother G. had an incredible sweet tooth and I know she would have loved to eat my cakes.
The funny thing was that when we discussed details, she didn't want to use any fresh flowers! So to go with the red Valentine's Day theme, I did red gumpaste roses and piped heart inspired designs around the outside.
The inside was Dark Chocolate Sour Cream Layers filled with Grand Marnier Chocolate Mousse and iced with Orange Glow Buttercream (which is Vanilla Buttercream with Orange Curd folded in).
Note to self: make this cake for my own 90th!
